I just got back from New Orleans for my company's annual convention - thank goodness there were no hurricanes (at least not the bad kind.) As I remembered, food in New Orleans is heavy, heavy and then some more heavy, but oh so divine in small doses. I've included my favorites below:
Dick & Jenny's (4501 Tchoupitoulas (that's chop-uh-too-lus) St.): This mom and pop-run establishment serves up glammed up comfort food in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. I swear, every single dish was amazing (of course I dug my fork into everyone's food) and totally worth the trek from the French Quarter/Central Business District. Easily my favorite meal of the trip.
Cochon (930 Tchoupitoulas St.): Love that cochon is French for pig. Caters to dyed-in-the-wool foodies, serving delicacies such as fried alligator, pork cheeks and rabbit livers. Don't be scared, though - believe me, after a few days of local food, you'll be ready for something different.
Oceana Grill (739 Conti St.): Recommended by a local policeman (thanks N!), this casual restaurant showcased some of the best bang for buck - especially since it's smack dab in the middle of the French Quarter. Irreverent (the fun kind) service, $9 for a dozen oysters and killer crabcakes made my visit the perfect end to a week in NOLA.

What, no comment on Luke? In case you didn't have them, oysters were divine, service good, prices reasonable, and a comfy setting...for a restaurant hotel.
