I've always had a soft spot for Solstice so when C suggested we catch up there, I readily agreed. I've never had a bad meal here over the course of the last several years, but let's just say there's a first time for everything.

Since food at Solstice is served tapas style, we decided to share the Ahi Tuna Tartare, the Citrus Braised Carnitas Tacos, the Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese and some variety of a spinach salad. The ahi is mixed with jalapenos and apples and served on top of won ton chips. When C remarked that the concoction tasted like nacho cheese, I was dubious, but sure enough he was correct. Never should ahi taste like anything but ahi, and even if potentially the chip was fried in old oil resulting in the peculiar taste, even my love for nacho cheese couldn't save this dish. It was SO wrong and we actually left the majority on the plate to be taken away. The tacos were passable and the salad was dismal and soggy.

The best part of this meal was the mac and cheese but by the time it came out (last), we were full, disgusted and disappointed. Plus they overdid it on the apples perched atop the mac...what's with all the apples?

I do like Solstice for drinks though, and I'll likely be back for that. And maybe if I'm feeling daring, I will try the Hand Cut Frites Two Ways again. I remember those USED to be good.

The Verdict: Not Worth It, Unless I've Had Too Many Drinks And Need Something To Soak Them Up...Maybe
