In the usual mood for Mexican, I wanted to take W to my all-time fave Mex spot in MV, El Paso Cafe, but unfortunately, I'd forgotten that they close early on Sundays. So instead, we headed to Palo Alto Sol, a place J has recommended that I've always wanted to try.
Palo Alto Sol is a mom and pop joint on the quieter string of shops on California - in fact, you'd almost miss it if you didn't know it was there.

We weren't super hungry so we ordered a couple of beers and an entree each - a situation I try to avoid because it means I get to try less. W ordered the Fajitas as usual, no different than the simple and dare I say boring preparation of the many-a fajita dishes I've experienced. Our friendly server did, however, let him order the dish with a chicken and steak combo - a plus. As there is nothing better in my culinary opinion than a combination plate, I ordered the Al Sol enchiladas, serving up one each of the Mole and Guajillo enchiladas with rice and beans. Now I wasn't hating on PA Sol when I said the fajitas were boring...it's just, why get something so standard when you can have these enchiladas (by the way, there are eight different varieties?) When ordering enchiladas at PA Sol, you choose your meat (chicken for me) and then the enchilada is smothered in your sauce of choice. The Mole was a little on the sweet side, but was scrumptious nonetheless, but it's really the Guajillo that I so greatly enjoyed - a unique blend of reduced sour cream base, guajillo peppers and herbs. I can't wait to go back to try the other enchilada sauce varieties!

From what I hear, the margaritas are also to die for so we'll have to hit those up next time we're back. And we definitely will be.

The Verdict: Worth It
